COFFEE STRIPS — Counting was well up into the thousands at St. James School here this past week as students rounded up their annual "coffee strip collection" drive. The students gathered a total of 11,582 coffee strips which were packaged Thursday afternoon and sent by mail to Davenport where they will be exchanged for Christmas gifts. St. James officials here said that Christmas gifts gained from coffee strips that were turned in by the local school will be sent to children at the St. Vincent's Orphanage in Davenport. Pictured around a box of the coffee strips above are from left to right, Claude Marie, chairman of the project, and other members of the collection committee, Dick Claeys, Dick Sojka, Steve Peiffer, and Stan Fuhr. — Journal photo by Bob Elliott
