Photo Unpublished. Dec. 2 Paper missing from SE Iowa Archive. Six fire trucks from four nearby towns were unable to contain a fire which leveled a large building and completely destroyed several thousand dollars worth of contents at West Chester late Monday night. Although the firemen were unable to control the fire in the building which is located on the south side of highway 92 in the town of West Chester they were successful in keeping the flames from the rapidly burning fire from spreading to any other buildings in the vicinity. The West Chester fire truck and two fire trucks each from Keota and Wellman, plus the Farmers' Mutual Insurance Company truck from Washington arrived at the scene to fight a losing battle with the blaze shortly after 11:30 Monday night. The building was owned by Frank A. Blosser of Overland Park, Kan., but was being used for storing grain and housing trucks and equipment owned by the Porter Elevator Company in West Chester. Clifford Porter stated this morning that two trucks from his firm were destroyed in the fire along With approximately 10 tons of feed which was stored there.
