SEIDL caption: STREETS COMPLETED — Washington merchants were hosts today to their friends from throughout this area, at a street opening event sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. As can be seen from this photograph, taken from the northwest corner of the square, the new, wider streets around the square and in the business district are now in use by the general public. Wider, smoother streets; free movement of traffic; and easier parking are a few of the advantages gained by the improvement program. The project also has aided much to the attractive appearance of Washington's business district. Visitors in the city also now have two fine improved streets in the south part of Washington, with the completion of South Iowa Avenue and South Ninth Avenue.
