SEIDL caption: This stunt was referenced in ad ad for Montgomery Ward mattresses on Page 4, Oct. 16, 1957. The text reads, in part: "6729 Lbs. FOR 72 HOURS — During the Corn Festival, we had an International Harvester Model 450 Tractor, weighing 6729 lbs., on one of these Simmons Ward Week Special Mattresses for 72 hours. This same mattress is in our show window now. Come in and see it today." The Journal was always reluctant to provide "free" advertising in the news columns for commercial businesses.
